Welcome To

MGUH Nursing Calendar

We’ve created this website not only as a resource for you to access important, useful information, but also to celebrate the amazing work our nurses do every single day.

Your Career

We are proud of our exceptional nursing team and encourage our nurses to seek opportunities for professional growth and development. That’s why we offer programs aimed at professional development and have established several ways to recognize and reward our nurses for their hard work, passion, and commitment.

Nursing Education and Professional Development

MedStar Georgetown is committed to providing a comprehensive nursing orientation experience that includes didactic, computer-assisted learning, simulation, and hands-on training to improve clinical skills, enhance knowledge, and support professional growth. Additional unit orientation and specialty training integrate clinical knowledge with hands-on skills to prepare nurses for professional practice. Nurses also have access to tuition assistance, national certification review courses, conferences, and scholarships to support continuing education and learning.

Student Nurse Externships

MedStar Georgetown offers paid externships to student nurses, allowing them to gain valuable hands-on experiences to help prepare them for the role of new graduate nurses.

New-to-Practice/Residency Program

MedStar Georgetown’s New-to-Practice (NTP) Nurse Residency Program is part of the Vizient/American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The curriculum is evidence-based and has demonstrated competitive retention rates of NTP Nurse Residents. This 12-month-long program provides the Nurse Resident with a series of structured learning and practice experiences designed to assist in their transition from a new-to-practice to a professional nurse and clinical leader at the bedside. This transition prepares the Nurse Resident for success as a full partner on the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing safe and quality care to our patients.

The employee-based nurse residency program at MedStar Georgetown is currently in pursuit of Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNEAccreditation.org) accreditation. Applying for accreditation does not guarantee that accreditation will be granted.

Clinical Advancement Program (CAP)

The CAP supports excellence in clinical nursing practice for direct care nurses. It promotes professional development, lifelong learning, clinical expertise, leadership, evidence-based practice (EBP), research, and provides financial incentives to registered nurses who advance their level of practice.
